Research Assistant

About Role

The Product team uses creativity, insights, and operational excellence to steer our product vision. This person will be responsible for helping capture and distill insights that can lead to the success of our designers, data scientists, product managers, and other team members who all work in a highly collaborative, trust-based environment to build the products and experiences that bring our community together in new and special ways.

 

The role is part-time and reports to BEACON company leadership.

Responsibilties

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of all data sources, asking the right questions, testing hypotheses, identifying patterns and providing the necessary business context to translate what it all means for overall growth, friending, activation/re-engagement, notifications and email strategy.
  • Build tools to understand how our ML and ranking systems behave, not just perform.
  • Work closely with product and business teams to identify research topics
  • Act as a thought leader in the domain of research, while advocating for the people who do or could use our products
  • Contribute to research team strategy within org
  • Work broadly across team to help identify trade-offs between short and long-term research goals and select right mix of projects to benefit team
  • Design studies that address both user behavior and attitudes
  • Generate insights that both fuel ideation and evaluate designs
  • Conduct research using a wide variety of methods, and interpret analysis through the lens of UX, HCI, and social science
  • Collaborate closely with other UX researchers to leverage and build upon knowledge
  • Work cross-functionally with design, product management, content strategy, engineering and marketing
  • Partner with engineers, analysts, and other technical roles to create and share research
  • Communicate results and illustrate suggestions in compelling and creative ways

Requirements

  • Knowledge of digital marketing performance principles and metrics as well as analytics tools, and how to connect these to financial reports 
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills and rapid iteration mindset
  • Proactively communicate with leadership team, provide weekly status updates in clear, descriptive manner without needing to be asked or tightly managed
  • Knowledge of database structures and identity management
  • Ability to work with entirely virtual and global cross-functional teams
  • Ability to build effective relationships with key operational partners especially data management and technical teams

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, in pursuit of Bachelor’s Degree, or other proof of experience that can demonstrate qualification for the position
  • Experience in measurement and insights
  • Experience creating automated workflows and standardized operations
  • Experience in digital marketing measurement

Beneficial Qualifications

  • Capable of crafting professional copy and marketing materials
  • Experience growing social media and general market presence, especially on low budget operations
  • Experience working with databases and understanding of modern technologies 
  • Passion to discover new solutions and knowledge of where to stay up to date on most cutting edge technologies
  • Experience working in Big Data environments (AWS, Hadoop, MapReduce, Hive, etc.)
  • Background in analytical field or other previous experience working with analytical structured and unstructured environments
